Unlocking AI for Good: Fairphone’s Mini-Hackathon Experience
Fairphone, a trailblazer in sustainable technology, has always been about more than just building modular phones. Their mission is rooted in ethical innovation, and AI presents an exciting opportunity to amplify their impact. To explore these possibilities, Fairphone partnered with us to facilitate the AI for Good Hackathon—a high-energy, hands-on event designed to bridge the gap between technology and purpose.
The Challenge: Bringing AI into Ethical Tech
As a company committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable design, Fairphone wanted to explore AI’s role in ethical technology. How could AI be leveraged to improve supply chain transparency, enhance customer engagement, or drive sustainable manufacturing? With a diverse team of 90 participants, we set out to uncover AI’s hidden potential.
The Solution: A 3-Hour Interactive Hackathon
To structure the session, we developed a three-phase approach, ensuring participants gained personal insights, operational knowledge, and future-facing AI strategies.

- Introduced the AI Opportunities Radar by Gartner to inspire new ideas.
- Challenged teams to envision AI-driven innovations for Fairphone’s mission.
- Closed with rapid-fire presentations, bringing concepts to life.
✨ Bonus highlight: Teams used LEGO to build their AI opportunities, turning abstract ideas into tangible, playful prototypes—an unexpected but powerful way to fuel creativity and engagement.
